HELP OUR STUDENTS LEARN AND STAY SAFE
Bauxite Schools is hoping to pass a millage to help build two academic buildings. One would be for four classrooms at Pine Haven Elementary that would also serve as a tornado safe room for all of the staff and students in the case of an emergency. Bauxite currently has a safe room for the other campus that is also open to the public in the case of a disaster, but this would now allow us to protect the children and adults at our elementary. The other building would be for a new addition to our high school to provide classrooms that would allow us to stop utilizing our science building that has reached the end of its lifespan and would keep us from continuing to pour money and resources into its repairs.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Is this going towards athletics?
A. No, it's dedicated 100% towards the construction of the safe room and the high school addition.
Q: Why now?
A: The Arkansas Division of Public School Academic Facilities and Transportation has awarded Bauxite Public Schools approximately $3 million to apply to these construction projects. However, the money is only available for 18 months and will be reassigned to other school districts if not used by Bauxite Public Schools. Currently, the district cannot afford these new construction projects without the increased millage rate, so failure to pass the millage rate increase will result in the loss of the $3 million in state money.
Q: What millage rate change is Bauxite Public Schools proposing?
A: Bauxite Public Schools will be asking the voters to approve a millage rate increase of 3.6 mills.
Q: How much extra money will this give to the school?
A: If the proposed increase is passed by the voters, the district will receive approximately $5 million in new construction funds.
Q: How much will the increased millage cost me?
A: For every $50,000 dollars worth of personal property a resident owns, it would add approximately $3 a month.
Q: Where would the new tornado safe room be located at Pine Haven Elementary?
A: The tornado safe room will be built onto the east side of the newly built addition, near the playground.
Q: What is being added to the high school?
A: The new construction will give the high school additional classrooms, science labs, a library, and a new front entrance.
